Recent Leaks — per Bloomberg

According to Mark Gurman, Apple’s foldable iPhone is in progress now. Several new features have been leaked, and they align with the previous ones. Let’s talk about what Apple is planning for its long-awaited foldable device.

Display

This foldable iPhone is expected to have a 7.8-inch inner display with a 5.5-inch outer display. For perspective, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 comes with an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer display.

On the same front, Ming-Chi Kou, Apple Supply Chain Analyst, hinted that the foldable iPhone and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will adopt a crease-free inner display. For this, Samsung will be using laser-drilled metal display technology for both devices.

Shooters

Per Mark Gurman’s article, the foldable iPhone will come with 4 shooters in total. None of them are going to be in-display cams, like Galaxy Z Folds. The 4 shooters are:

— 1 shooter for the outer display
— 1 shooter for the inner display
— 2 shooters for the primary camera module

Also, the 2 cams on the displays will not come with depth sensors. As a result, there will be no Face ID for authentication. It is unclear if this device will feature Dynamic Island.

Touch ID

C2 Modem

Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a light and yet balanced chassis this time. Samsung refined it to near perfection in terms of build. Now, weighs around 238 gm, down from the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 253 gm, instantly noticeable on the hands.

Hinge Mechanism

The hinge is tighter and cleaner. When closed, it looks like a perfect, narrow slab with almost zero gaps. Closes seamlessly with a satisfying snap. No ingress dust in 2025. Of note, has IPX8 water resistance but does not offer dust resistance. The satin matte finish rear is not only smooth but also grippy.

Display

Brighter, Crease-Less (almost), and a Treat to Use

Samsung has improved both displays significantly. Now, the displays are more interactive and responsive. Embedded features are worthy enough to get excited by.

Outer Display

The outer display is now 6.4 inches with slimmer bezels and a 21:9 aspect ratio, which feels like a regular smartphone. Typing, scrolling, and replying to messages feel less cramped. The outer display provides more comfort when used one-handed.

Inner Display

The 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable screen takes the spotlight every time it is opened. With up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness, LTPO 120Hz refresh rate, and better crease camouflage, the display feels far more immersive than its predecessors.

The Crease

The crease of the inner display is much subtler. Visually, not bothering anymore. Nevertheless, a curious eye should find some of it. However, Samsung’s new Gorilla Armor coating helps reduce reflections and adds scratch resistance.

The inner screen is squared off. Does not feel like a tablet now. It is great for split-screen multitasking, but not ideal for widescreen video content. You will notice black bars on the sides for Netflix and YouTube videos in full-screen mode.

Multitasking & UX

Speaking of multitasking, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can run three apps simultaneously. You can float a fourth app over them. Interestingly, drag-and-drop between apps is faster and finally useful. You can draft emails while referencing Google Docs and Slack chats. And, this does not feel compact anymore.

The inner screen is not just bigger; it is smarter. The improved taskbar is more responsive, less buggy, and now fully customizable. Galaxy Z Fold 7 remembers app layouts when you reopen the screen, thanks to the UX.

Great Setup with AI-Powered Tweaks

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 uses the familiar triple-lens system. Main camera module remains mostly the same, with the same bump as well.

— 12MP ultra-wide angle shooter
— 10MP 3x telephoto shooter

No major jump in hardware here. These cameras are really good. Of note, you should not compare these with the latest Galaxy S Ultra. Worth mentioning, the AI-powered image processing makes a real deal.

Image Quality

You are to get good daylight snaps with sharp and vivid colors. Skin tones look natural and fresh. The background can get a bit washed, which is obviously unnoticeable. Low-light photography has improved significantly. However, compared to photography-focused flagship smartphones, such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, or the iPhone 16 Pros, you may notice some missing details and minor quality issues with dynamic range. Again, not noticeable unless you really want to see.

New Camera Features

Speaking of new camera features, 2 of them are very interesting. I believe the Auto-Framing Pro is going to be widely used by everyone. In fact, this feature will save you time while editing videos.

“Auto-Framing Pro” — for better video centering during calls and vlogs. The feature is responsible for keeping the subject at the center of the viewport even if the subject moves.

“Flex Shot” — optimized for angled, half-fold shots using the hinge.

In-Display Shooter

Worth mentioning, the in-display camera is still bad for selfies. However, not as bad as a 480p photo! The right words should be — it works. Note that the in-display camera is never for selfies if you are thinking otherwise. For Zoom calls and Google Meet, it works great.

Performance

Fast and Built for Multitasking

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, this is a performance champ. Flawlessly handles split-screening three apps and floating a fourth, as mentioned. Interestingly, there are no heating issues. You can push the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with intense applications, and it will still remain calm. Play Intense games without a hitch.

Benchmarks ensure performance is inevitable in this foldable. Geekbench 6 score is ~2,100 for single-core and ~5,600 for multi-core (higher than iPhone 15 Pro Max on multi-core). Comes with 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and several UFS 4.0 storage options to choose from, such as 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB.

Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 introduces memory compression with background task optimization. App continuity between screens is smoother than ever. With the 4,600 mAh battery and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 performs great and is responsive.

Okay for Most, Meh for Heavy Users

For the heavy multitaskers and gamers, I suggest carrying a charger. Speaking of which, fast charging tops out at 45W, and wireless charging is a bit slower on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Interestingly, the inner display supports the S Pen, which is sold separately. Also, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 does not have any in-device S Pen storage unit.
