Creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced a new movie from Nintendo of America’s Twitter or X account on Mario Day, March 10. The new movie has been planned based on the great success of the initial Super Mario Bros. movie, which was released in April 2023.

This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories. [1/2]

Storyline
Per leaks and rumors, the new movie will be based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This movie will not be a direct sequel to the first one. It is assumed that with the release of this movie, the Super Mario franchise will introduce a new world and story to feature in their next game.
Progress
Per Illumination, the upcoming Super Mario movie is done with “storyboarding scenes and developing set designs for new environments.” The final animated scenes will start to be rendered soon. Hopefully, next month, we will be able to see the official trailer. Stay tuned for that.
First Movie
The Super Mario Bros. Movie crashed at the box office in April 2023. That movie hit around $1.3 Billion by the beginning of June 2023, which is the highest-grossing video game movie to date. Due to its huge popularity, the AMC Theaters is bringing the first movie back in theaters on June 28, 2024.
Release Date
The upcoming movie will be in theaters on April 03, 2024, in the US and subsequent regions. Throughout April 2026, this movie will be released in several other regions.
